Previous Image Next day 6 - Queenstown to Greymouth

Began the longest day of the trip with a twisty, hairpin
filled climb up Mt. Cardrona, which slowly turned into a fantastic
road winding along the Cardrona River.  After passing through a
group of cattle being herded along in the road and a fence adorned
with hundreds of bras, we arrived for lunch in Wanaka.  Shortly
after, we were treated to more perfect roads twisting between the
picturesque Lake Wanaka and Hawea before the landscape started
becoming more wooded and we made our way over the southern alps
towards the west coast.  Much of the western coastline was heavily
wooded and almost rainforest-like, due to the 6m/year of rain it
receives.  After short stops at Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers, we
got in to Greymouth just before the sun set.
