day 1 - Christchurch to Oamaru

Out from Christchurch and across the Canturbury plains and
towards Mount Hutt.  Reached Lake Tekapu mid-afternoon, and turned
back to find our first gravel/dirt road of the trip.  After some
searching (and the help of a farmer passing by) we found the
correct road just as it started to sprinkle.  Luckily the rain
stayed off as we made our way through our first (of many) fords
and kilometers of back-country New Zealand.  After reaching main
roads again, the rain started, and we rushed towards Oamaru for
the night.
